Tis the season to be merry and jolly and hence on boxing day, we attended “Blended Brunch” – a premium all-inclusive brunch held by the Blend Events Team. According to a quick Wikipedia search, a brunch is typically the “combination of breakfast and lunch eaten usually during the late morning to early afternoon, generally served from 10am up to 2pm”.
Now, after a full day of food on Christmas Day, this is perfect timing because Steven and I were definitely not waking up early enough to make ourselves breakfast. So the timing was spot on because we crawled out of bed with enough time to get ready and make it in time for midday.
So let’s break it down:
Venue
I can comfortably say that I do not attend many brunch events. Mainly for the fact that Barbadian promoters do not host many. And, the ones that do tend to have a bit of trouble merging brunch concept in a cool setting. The last one I attended (which ironically was at the same location around the same time) was extremely uncomfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that a different entrance and the use of a different space was all that was needed to create a different atmosphere. This is compared to most other events which are held at that same location.
Food
If you saw me yesterday, at least 50% of my time was spent in the food lines. Not because the service was slow but because the food by “The Gourmet Connoisseurs” was that great! I didn’t want to look like a complete pig so I’d go and come back. And I repeated that sequence many times!
I started off with the slow roasted pulled pork sliders and the ham sliders. And when I was stuffing my face, I started to feel bad for the vegetarians in the crowd. Most of the time that’s usually a group that tends to be forgotten. But then they were alternative options such as crushed fish tacos, a pasta station and much more. So in true Bernadette style, I proceeded to stuff my face…
There was also various desert options to choose from such as colorful cupcakes, jam puffs, ice cream and much more! This was better than Christmas Day food!
Drinks
I don’t know about you, but when I see bartenders like Philip “Casanova” Antoine – Barbados’ Bartender of the Year 2015 among many other accolades, I know shit is about to get real! I truly love to see bartenders happy to create special cocktails. After all, that is a major part of the experience. Despite the fact that there were 3 drink stations, persons really crowded around 2. Unfortunately, this meant that sometimes you’d have to wait a bit longer than normal to get a drink. But at no time did I see anyone upset – because the patrons were all watching in awe as their favourite bartenders did amazing tricks. It looked as though they preferred to wait!
You had multiple stations such as the Hennessy Station as well as the Mount Gay Rum and Ciroc Station. Lipton Tea was also serving up some tea which was spot on for the brunching theme.
